80/20 that this isn’t real, but it’s still fun

June 9, 2009

The Marketplace is perhaps the largest of the island’s grocery stores.  Their stores are the things that legends and great humour is often written about.  It’s the lone store on the island where they still key in the prices manually, though they’ve all recently had bar code readers installed. We’re thinking phase 2, actually using the technology won’t happen until 2012.

Their customer service is also legendary.  In fact at Sue’s old work they have a scavenger hunt for new employees.  One of the items they have to try and get a picture of is a cashier smiling.  It’s often one of the harder things to get (the trick is to offer them potato chips).

An email recently circulated around the island, claiming that their bakery actually made the cake pictured below.  Hard to believe anyone could be that silly, but on this island, we’ve learned that anything is possible.  Also adding credence to the picture is the spelling of "underneath".

Editor’s note: this picture has been around the web since 2007, supposedly from a Walmart employee (but probably not).  But it’s still funny.
